Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is a prescription medication used to treat various viral infections. The main indication for Valtrex 500mg is the treatment of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections, including genital herpes and cold sores. It can also be used to prevent recurrent outbreaks of these infections.

The recommended dosage of Valtrex (Valacyclovir) 500mg for the treatment of genital herpes is 1 gram (two 500mg tablets) taken twice daily for 7 to 10 days. For the treatment of cold sores, the recommended dosage is 2 grams (four 500mg tablets) taken twice daily for 1 day.
