Jolax (lactulose) 100ml
Jolax (Lactulose) is a medication commonly used to treat constipation. It works by drawing water into the colon, softening the stool and making it easier to pass. Lactulose is also sometimes used to treat or prevent hepatic encephalopathy, a condition that occurs when the liver is unable to remove toxins from the blood.
Indication:
- Constipation: Lactulose is indicated for the treatment of constipation by increasing the water content and softening the stool, making it easier to pass.
- Hepatic Encephalopathy: Lactulose is also indicated for the treatment and prevention of hepatic encephalopathy by reducing the production and absorption of ammonia in the colon.
Dosage:
- For constipation: The usual starting dose for adults is 15-30 ml (10-20 g) once daily, with the dose adjusted based on individual response. The dose can be increased up to 60 ml (40 g) daily if necessary.
- For hepatic encephalopathy: The initial dose for adults is 30-45 ml (20-30 g) three to four times daily, with the dose adjusted to produce 2-3 soft stools per day.
